New Grant Funds Transportation for Families Leaving Violent Homes
YWCA has received a $5,000 grant from
Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee
. The grant will fund cab rides and MTA bus passes for women and their families. Last year the YWCA Weaver Domestic Violence Shelter served 269 women and 189 children.
"We frequently receive crisis calls from women who do not have transportation to our shelter and need us to send a cab for them and their children," explained Tami Walker, Director of the YWCA Weaver Domestic Violence Center. This grant will help those individuals as well as women and children in shelter who need transportation to medical appointments, court appointments and meetings with other social service providers. "We are grateful for the funding provided by the Community Foundation to not only help women and children flee violent situations but also help them begin rebuilding their lives."
