Family Literacy Center
The Family Literacy Center is a YWCA program for adult and child learning. Our Center helps families improve school readiness for their children and increases parents’ participation in their children’s learning. Family literacy is a proven approach that improves the literacy, language and life skills of both parents and children. Not only is literacy fundamental for learning in school, it also has an impact on an individual's ability to participate and succeed in society.
Our program includes adult education, children's education, parenting education, and interactive parent-child learning time. More than 45 percent of female-headed households live in poverty in Davidson County. Low family income and a mother’s lack of education are the greatest risk factors to a child’s early learning and development.
