YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee Receives $250,000 Grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to Support Adult Literacy

FLC Graduation Speaker and FamNashville, TENN. – May 20, 2020 – The Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee a $250,000 grant to support adult literacy.  This local grant is part of more than $8.6 million in grants awarded to more than 950 schools, nonprofits and organizations across the communities Dollar General serves.“Thanks to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, lives are changing and families are thriving,” said Sharon K. Roberson, President and CEO of YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee. “We are extremely grateful for the longtime support and incredible trust the Foundation has in our Family Learning Center. Together, we are building a stronger Nashville community.”YWCA’s Family Learning Center offers adult education classes in both English and Spanish, and students range in age from 17 to 75. Nearly 100,000 adults in Metro Nashville do not have a high school diploma. Individuals who pass the HiSET (formerly GED) can receive higher wages, better job opportunities, and access to higher education.
