Family Literacy Center

The YWCA’s Family Literacy Center offers high quality, culturally sensitive, comprehensive family-centered programming to help families break the cycle of intergenerational poverty and illiteracy. The Family Literacy Center focuses on community-based early childhood education, parent-child learning time, parenting education, adult literacy, career services and continuing education support for families. We serve adults and families from all corners of Nashville and Middle Tennessee, with a primary focus on the Antioch, Madison, and Hermitage communities. Click here for our class schedule.

Early Childhood Education
The Children’s Education component of the YWCA Family Literacy Center includes free learning sessions for children ages 3 to 5-years-old. These sessions focus on school readiness and literacy skills that prepare children for Pre-K and kindergarten, all taking place in an environment that fosters social, physical, emotional, and cognitive growth.

Parent-Child Learning Time
Parent and Child Time, also known as PACT, is a child-led activity time with a parent that includes a story, songs, games, and crafts. PACT promotes open communication between parents and children as parents learn how to enhance and develop their child’s literacy skills.

Parenting Education
Parent Education provides parents with the resources they need to increase their levels of self-sufficiency and knowledge as parents, as well enhances their children’s depth of knowledge. During parent time, adults learn life, parenting, and child development skills. They also become familiar with early literacy. Parents are also provided with community resources, including information on health and wellness.
