Girls Inc. at YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee is dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. The Girls Inc. Experience consists of people, an environment, and programming that, together, empower girls to succeed. Trained staff and volunteers build lasting, mentoring relationships in girls-only spaces that are physically and emotionally safe and where girls find a sisterhood of support with shared drive, mutual respect, and high expectations. Hands-on, research-based programs provide girls with the skills and knowledge to set goals, overcome obstacles, and improve academic performance. Girls Inc. also equips girls to lead healthy and physically active lives; manage money; navigate media messages; and discover an interest in science, technology, engineering, and math.
YWCA is proud to offer Girls Inc. at twelve schools in the Metro Nashville Public School District. We have provided more than 3,000 girls with life-changing experiences and solutions since becoming the Girls Inc. affiliate in Middle Tennessee in 2008.

Meet a few of our Girls
Jaliyah comes to Girls Inc. every session with a smile on her face and ready to participate. However, Jalliyah does more than just listen to the lessons. She is taking action! Jaliyah is taking steps to create a Janitor Appreciation Day so that the students can take a moment to recognize these unsung heroes. Jaliyah stated, “I was scared to start something on my own, but at Girls Inc. we talk about being bold and using our voices.” She said that being in Girls Inc. has helped her to see the needs in her school and begin to do something about them. When asked what her favorite part of Girls Inc. is, Jaliyah simply stated, “Girls Inc. makes things feel better. We get to talk about our lives and have fun!"
MyKyla attends Jere Baxter Middle School and always has such a positive attitude! She is a great listener and her comments are always well-informed. MyKyla wanted to be in Girls Inc. because she felt that the program would help increase her self confidence. MyKyla describes Girls Inc. as a safe place where she can go and and be herself. MyKyla is learning to keep her mind positive by reminding herself that she is Strong, Smart, and Bold and using coping skills she has learned at Girls Inc. If she were to inspire her younger sister to be Strong, Smart, and Bold she would tell her, "You're beautiful. You're smart. You're strong. You're bold. You don't have to lower yourself down for other people! Self-confidence is the main goal."
The Girls Inc. program has had a big impact on Nasyia 's life. It has helped her believe in myself. Not only did she get to participate in the wonderful Girls Inc. Summer Camp program, but Nasyia got chosen to go on a trip to Atlanta. It was an amazing experience! She was able to see where Martin Luther King Jr. grew up, as well as visit Ebenezer Baptist Church where Marin Luther King Jr. and his father pastored. Not only did she get to learn about Civil Rights history, she got to make new friends. Being in the Girls Inc. Program has taught Nasyia to always believe in herself and that she can do anything that she sets her mind to. She says that after this experience, the Girls Inc. program has changed her life for the BETTER!
