The Harnisch Foundation Invests $100,000 in YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee’s Social Justice & Advocacy Initiatives
NASHVILLE, TN (January 7, 2025) – The Harnisch Foundation recently committed $100,000 to YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee, significantly bolstering the organization's social justice and advocacy efforts. This generous gift from the New York-based foundation will serve as the presenting sponsorship for the annual Racial Justice Challenge and provide crucial support for other key YWCA programs.
"We are incredibly grateful to the Harnisch Foundation and Ruth Ann Harnisch for their generous investment in our mission," said Sharon K. Roberson, YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee President and CEO. "This support will empower us to expand our reach and deepen the impact of our racial justice and advocacy programs, fostering a more equitable and just community for all."
The Racial Justice Challenge, a 21-day virtual learning initiative held each April, provides participants with a deeper understanding of racial justice, social equity, and related issues. The Harnisch Foundation’s contribution will ensure the continued success and accessibility of this impactful program, allowing even more individuals to engage in meaningful dialogue and learning.
In addition to the Racial Justice Challenge, the grant will support the following YWCA initiatives:
● Stand Against Injustice Community Rally: An annual event bringing the community together to stand in solidarity against injustice and advocate for positive change.
● Stand Against Injustice Webinar Series: A series of informative, free webinars focused on various aspects of social justice and equity. Register HERE for the first webinar of 2025, Childcare Matters: Equity in Early Childhood Education.
● Youth Advocacy Summit: An empowering event designed to engage and equip young people with the tools and knowledge to become effective advocates for social change.
“I’ve been involved with the YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee for over 50 years. Together we’ve fought for gender equity and racial justice,” said Ruth Ann Harnisch, Founder and President of the Harnisch Foundation. “It’s time for the next generation to step up, and the YWCA is ready to give them the tools they need to build a better future. If we want a community that works for all of us, we need to support the YWCA and its bold vision to lead with respect and justice for all.”
This significant contribution underscores the importance of community partnerships in driving positive social change. YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee remains committed to its mission of eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.
